Eldohub/ILO Innovation Challenge Enters Its Final Leg

The Eldohub/ILO Innovation Challenge, focused on creating decent jobs for refugees and host communities in Garissa and Turkana Counties, has entered its final stage. This stage involves the shortlisting of approximately 30 service providers who will play a crucial role in enhancing skills development, expanding digital job infrastructure, and increasing job linkages for both refugees and the host communities. The responses from the call for applications in December have been very good. We received 133 applications and have shortlisted about 25 of them who presented exceptional innovations. Some are early-stage innovations, while others are scale-up ideas. We are impressed by the quality of applications and look forward to the pitching stage where the applicants will present and discuss their ideas before a panel of judges,” said Isaac, Eldohub’s Resource Mobilization and Programme Management Specialist.

This final stage of the competition aims to select up to 12 businesses that will receive awards ranging from $5,000 to $40,000. These businesses will be coached and supported by Eldohub’s team to fulfill their obligations in 2024 and 2025. This support includes not only financial backing but also mentorship and resources necessary for the successful implementation of their projects.

Pitching

The shortlisted innovations encompass a diverse range of solutions, from early-stage concepts to scalable ideas that have the potential to significantly impact the economic landscape for refugees and host communities. The challenge is designed to foster entrepreneurial spirit and ingenuity, recognizing the critical role of innovative solutions in addressing employment challenges in these regions. The pitching stage is a pivotal part of the selection process. Here, the shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of judges, detailing their vision, strategy, and potential impact. This process not only helps identify the most promising innovations but also provides valuable feedback to all participants, enhancing their projects and preparing them for future opportunities.
