Kenya to Host Inaugural “Inclusive TechRun” Integrating Athletic Excellence with Pioneering Innovation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAIROBI, KENYA — On 1 March 2026, the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi will host a significant event demonstrating that disability sport is a reflection of elite athletic competition. Coinciding with the International Day of Wheelchair Users, the Inclusive TechRun: Para & Disability Edition will bring together distinguished athletes and pioneering technologists to illustrate how innovation can remove barriers faced by individuals with disabilities. Organised by EldoHub in collaboration with the UK–Kenya Tech Hub, AT4D, and Enda Sport, this event marks an evolution of the successful TechRun series. This year’s edition emphasises the intersection of resilience and assistive technology (AT), showcasing Kenya’s prominence in long-distance running and its expanding technological ecosystem.

“The Inclusive TechRun celebrates the synergy between human resilience and technological advancement,” states the organising committee. “By uniting athletes, innovators, and the community, we aim to demonstrate how digital transformation fosters new opportunities across sport and enterprise.”

Key Highlights of the Event:

Inclusive Competitive Races: High-velocity wheelchair sprints, races for the deaf community featuring visual start signals, guided runs for visually impaired athletes, and a category for athletes of short stature.

Assistive Technology Exhibition: A curated display of ten leading innovators showcasing adaptive sports equipment, mobility solutions, hearing technologies, and accessible digital tools.

Honour for Pioneers: Special recognitions for Kenyan para-sport legends, including Paralympic gold medallist Henry Wanyoike, alongside celebrations of milestones such as the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics podium sweep.

International Collaboration: Strategic partnerships between UK and Kenyan universities to co-develop future pathways for inclusive sports technology and research.

Diplomatic Leadership: The event will be formally opened by the Deputy British High Commissioner, Dr Ed Barnett, who will deliver keynote remarks on the UK’s leadership in inclusion and sports science.

To facilitate an accessible experience, the venue will offer an accessibility support desk, sign language interpretation, tactile markers, and audio-guided navigation for all attendees. Registration for participants, exhibitors, and spectators is now available at techrun.co.ke.
