EldoHub proudly hosted the IEEE University of Eldoret Student Branch for the 24-hour IEEEXtreme 19.0 global hackathon, an annual coding competition that connects students worldwide to solve complex algorithmic problems in real time. This year’s event reaffirmed EldoHub’s mission to nurture young tech talent, foster innovation, and build a vibrant digital ecosystem in Kenya and across East Africa.
About IEEE and the University of Eldoret Student Branch
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity. At the University of Eldoret IEEE Student Branch, students participate in workshops, mentorship programs, and hackathons — experiences that bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, preparing them to thrive in today’s technology-driven world.
Stories of Passion and Purpose
For Immaculate Kimani, a Computer Science student and IEEEXtreme Ambassador, curiosity sparked a journey into tech. “What started as a simple curiosity about how technology works became a passion for building user-friendly web applications,” she said. “Beyond coding, I’m dedicated to promoting accessibility for the deaf community through sign language and inclusive tech projects.” EldoHub played a vital role by providing workspace, internet, and mentorship support during the 24-hour event. “The EldoHub team was with us every step of the way. Their support kept our teams energized and focused, even at 3 a.m…,” Immaculate added.
A Community Where Ideas Thrive
For many participants, EldoHub is the heartbeat of innovation in Eldoret — a place where ideas come alive and collaboration fuels transformation. “You walk in curious and walk out inspired,” Immaculate said. “EldoHub bridges academia with industry, creating invaluable growth opportunities.” Through partnerships like IEEE, EldoHub continues to build a hands-on learning environment where students strengthen technical, leadership, and creative skills.
Collaboration that Fuels Innovation
Valentine Langiri, IEEE Events Coordinator and Computer Science student, shared her experience leading the event. “Hosting the hackathon at EldoHub was incredible. The environment, strong internet, and mentorship kept everyone motivated all night long. Spaces like EldoHub remind us how powerful collaboration can be in empowering young innovators.” Beyond her coding work, Valentine is a passionate advocate for women in STEM, supporting mentorship and inclusion through Women Innovators. “EldoHub isn’t just a space, it’s a community that empowers, connects, and inspires. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, you’re part of something bigger, a thriving ecosystem where innovation grows.”
Bridging Learning and Real-World Impact
The collaboration between IEEE UoE Student Branch and EldoHub continues to equip students with practical experience through hackathons, coding challenges, and mentorship sessions. “Our partnership helps members build technical and leadership skills while inspiring them to use technology to solve local and global challenges,” said Valentine. This partnership plays a critical role in shaping the next generation of innovators and changemakers in Eldoret and beyond.
A Call to Action for Young Innovators
If you’re passionate about technology, there’s no better time to get started. Join EldoHub or the IEEE UoE Student Branch to access mentorship, community, and real-world learning experiences. “You don’t need to know everything to start, just the courage to learn and the consistency to keep going,” Immaculate shared. “Growth begins when you take that first step.”
In Conclusion
Events like the IEEEXtreme Hackathon demonstrate the power of collaboration between students, academic institutions, and innovation hubs. Through such partnerships, EldoHub continues to champion innovation, inclusion, and youth empowerment, turning ideas into impact and curiosity into creativity.
