Eldohub Hosts Forums on Technical Innovation in Kenya

Eldohub, in collaboration with Uasin Gishu County and an array of partners, holds regular monthly Tech Innovation Forums. The forum held in March 2024 saw the participation of more than 70 individuals from the county and vrious institutions. The event was structured into two insightful sessions.

Session One: Mastercard EdTech Fellowship

The first session focused on the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, with presentations and discussions about funding opportunities. Key topics included the fellowship’s priority areas, proposal requirements, timelines, and qualifications. Participants, both in-person and online, engaged in a vibrant dialogue about the EdTech opportunity. IHUB, Nairobi, was represented by William Chesoni, a community manager, who provided an overview of IHUB’s activities. Tabitha Ngugi, Learning Science Manager, and Kambe Ngali discussed their partnership program with the Mastercard Foundation, aimed at supporting EdTech in Africa. They were accompanied by partners who had won and implemented various EdTech awards. Mr. Kimani from Tumaini Innovation Hub introduced innovator Ms. Mary Muigai, who showcased her Solar Alert System.

Session Two: Promoting Education Through Innovation and Technology

Moderated by Brian Rono, the second session revolved around the theme “Promoting Education Through Innovation and Technology.” The panel featured three distinguished speakers: Jane Wafula, Teacher and Entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of Acacia Schools: Felix Kimaru, County Officer ICT, E-Government, and Innovation of the County Government of Uasin Gishu: Nicholas Kendagor, Trainer, Engineer, and Software Developer

This session addressed the challenges of integrating technology and innovation into the school system, focusing particularly on the adaptation of AI and its potential impact on grading systems. Additionally, discussions covered various innovations and technologies aimed at strengthening e-government, such as the installation of fiber-optic cables, plans to introduce coding programs in schools, and the digitization of government service delivery. Jane Wafula emphasized the importance of collaboration between tech developers, educators, and policymakers. She advocated for creating spaces where these stakeholders can work together, network, and engage in discussions to find relevant educational solutions.

Conclusion and Launch of Eldohub’s New Brand

The forum concluded with Ms. Chepkemoi Magdaline, CEO and Founder of Eldohub, launching the new brand of Eldohub. She highlighted the organization’s key achievements, including increased interest from governments and policymakers and numerous awards recognizing Eldohub’s work in 2023.
